Tips for keeping nails healthy between manicures

We all love our monthly manicure appointment, but unfortunately these days, it might be a while before we see the inside of a nail salon again. Many of us have gone back to the home manicure route, but if you’d really just rather leave your nails to the professionals, then the least you can do is try to keep your nails healthy in the interim. Here are a couple of tips for keeping your nails in tiptop shape while waiting for your next manicure!

Remove the right way

If your nails have grown out and you want to get rid of the polish desperately, please do not scrape it off. This is never a good idea (although we understand the temptation) and will more than likely damage your nails. Whatever kind of nail polish or nail enhancement you have on currently, try to remove them as safely as possible—when in doubt contact your manicurist for advice!

Care for your cuticles

If you are guilty of neglecting your cuticles, now is the time to invest in a good cuticle oil or cream. Dry, cracking cuticles can be painful and make your nails look messy. How often should you apply cuticle oil? Experts say once a day or before bedtime to keep your cuticles hydrated and healthy!

Let your nails breathe

Most of us go from manicure to manicure, which means our nails get very little downtime. But the truth is, our nails do need a break sometimes too! Take this time to let your nails go polish-free, while still caring for them as best you can.

Give your hands some TLC

Your hands work hard, and oftentimes a manicure is the only time we pamper them. However, with this extra time (plus the time away from the salon), use this opportunity to invest in your hands. Use a hand scrub to exfoliate and a lotion to moisturize and massage. Also, make sure to moisturize your hands often to keep them looking soft and supple!
